On Saturday we had the honour and the privilege of having Mr Kenn Burke visit the school to take class with our pupils in P4 upwards. Mr Burke is the Artistic Director of the Dance School of Scotland, and has a massive amount of experience in all areas of the dance world. This was an amazing opportunity and I am so glad so many of our girls were involved in this lovely afternoon.
Mr Burke trained at the Royal Ballet School before joining Scottish Ballet where he was soon promoted to Principal. He has also danced with National Ballet of Portugal, and Hong Kong Ballet, as well as becoming Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet 2. He has been Artistic Director of the Dance School of Scotland since 2012.
The girls absolutely loved their classes with Mr Burke, and it was also lovely to have Mr Evans in the class, who kindly came along to play the piano. The older class did a free class in classical centre technique and the younger girls had fun learning the wedding dance from "Coppélia". Between the classes Mr Burke gave a talk on his life as a dancer, the Dance School of Scotland and also answered lots of questions from the girls.
Our girls danced beautifully, behaved impeccably, were very welcoming to Mr Burke and Mr Evans and for this I am very proud.
I am so grateful to Mr Burke for offering to come and give the girls such an enriching and educational afternoon!
Below are some pictures of the girls enjoying the classes.
